Kolberg

The city of Kolberg is located in Pomerania on the beautiful Baltic coast , approximately halfway between the mouth of the Oder and the city of Gdańsk . The city has a rich, moving history: as early as 1255, it was one of the first settlements in Western Pomerania to receive city rights and was already the seat of a bishop. Kolberg then became known as an important fortress town that played a role in the Napoleonic era. From the second half of the 19th century, Kolobrzeg, as it is called in Polish, developed into a popular seaside and medicinal resort . Even today, the seaside resort enjoys a large number of people seeking relaxation from all over Poland every year because of its natural brine springs, the medicinally effective moors and, of course, its location on the golden-yellow Baltic Sea beach. The old town impresses visitors with its diverse architectural evidence from sacral, military and health resort history. Not to forget the ideal microclimate, which gives the region over 1,800 hours of sunshine a year and allows travelers to really enjoy the six kilometers of the finest golden sandy beach.

Our Polish partner school is located right on the edge of a small park. It’s only a 5-minute walk to the cathedral in the old town and in about 15 minutes you can reach one of the city’s most popular beaches. Numerous bars, restaurants, supermarkets, cinemas and shops give the area a solid urban charm. A bus stop right in the neighborhood ensures good transport connections in all directions.

The school has 5 bright, friendly and modern seminar rooms. The lessons are primarily based on oral communication skills, without neglecting other learning disciplines such as reading, listening comprehension and writing exercises. The teachers have all studied German and have additional teaching qualifications for teaching Polish to adults. The teaching material is in Polish. After arrival, the participants take a placement test and are divided into small groups of around 2 to 8 people into around 3-4 ability groups from beginners to advanced. Two teachers, one woman and one man, take turns supervising a learning group.
