Learn English in Exeter

Exeter-Devon

Learn English on Britain’s balmy south coast.   The scenery is elegant, a coastal landscape opens like a curtain and reveals a view: the scent of seaweed mixes with the spicy air of the nearby sea. Small harbors, tiny fishing villages, screaming seagulls prancing over granite-red sandstone cliffs. A composition of (often!) blue skies, long, red and yellow sandy beaches. Where? – We are located with our English course in Exeter in the county of Devon, just before Cornwall , more precisely in the capital Exeter. The historic city (approx. 100,000 inhabitants, with the famous Gothic cathedral and its renowned universities characterizes the city in the country with a culturally attractive and student flair! The city is surrounded by an exceptionally lovely, typically English landscape of hills and hedges, which soon becomes rougher merging into the famous extensive moor areas. Many famous English authors chose this suggestive region as the background for bizarre and exciting crime stories (e.g. Daphne du Maurier). The picturesque beaches of Exmouth
are 3 kilometers away , promising summer bathing pleasure for many every year Attract holiday seekers but little package tourism.

Language school & English lessons

The Exeter Academy, founded in 1978 and recognized by the British Council as highly efficient, is a small, very personal language school ( maximum 40-60 students ) with exceptionally friendly support and a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The school building, surrounded by a beautiful park-like garden, is not far from the historic old town. From here you can see the black and green Dartmoore Nature Park, one of the most impressive moorland landscapes in England. To the south there is a view of the sea. From the outside the property looks like a typical old English country house. Facilities: very attractive seminar rooms with state-of-the-art teaching technology, a multimedia center for guided self-study and Internet/e-mail use after class as well as a video/TV room and a coffee bar.
Participants from all over the world come here. The average age is 30 years, higher than at other language schools. The proportion of German speakers is only a maximum of 5-8%.

All teachers are excellently trained, have an academic career in linguistics and are coordinated by a very experienced didactic leader. The academy’s long-standing membership in the ARELS FELCO professional association underlines the exceptionally high and demanding level of teaching at the institute. The participants (minimum age 18 years) will be tested upon arrival and divided into 5 levels. The average class size is 6, maximum 8 people. Each course is supervised by up to 3 teachers, each dedicated to different learning disciplines. There will be a final test at the end of the course. All participants receive a detailed, meaningful certificate. The secretariat and the headmaster advise on all questions regarding learning progress.
