Dom.Rep/Santo Dimingo Sosua

Characteristic of the Dominican Republic : a tropical climate all year round, dream beaches with palm trees and turquoise water , but also a wide variety of landscapes and climates in the interior . The exotic Caribbean flair, the lightness and joy of life of the warm-hearted and hospitable people form a pleasant contrast to the hectic and sometimes cold Europe. Summer and sun prevail all year round with pleasant temperatures of around 28 C. Santo Domingo , founded in 1502 and now with around 1.5 million inhabitants, the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest city in the New World, is beautifully located on the south coast of the island. Around the cathedral founded by Christopher Columbus and the surrounding colonial streets in the Plaza España area with its numerous shops and terraces – cafés, there is a lot of hustle and bustle all day long until late in the evening.

Santo Domingo : The partner school, Instituto Intercultural del Caribe (founded in 1994) is a respected German-Dominican language and cultural institute with a garden and terrace, centrally located close to the university and just a few minutes from the Zona Colonial. In addition to Spanish for adults, German and English are also taught here and our own teaching materials are further developed. One of the school’s goals is to facilitate intercultural exchange between Dominican students and foreign language travelers. All teachers are native speakers, have academic training, have many years of teaching experience and usually also speak a foreign language. Together with the agile institute director, they form a good team that offers you excellent support even beyond the course times. The courses begin with a thorough placement test and then become practical and communicative.

Sosua : The school has a second center in Sosua, on the north coast in the quiet and well-kept district of El Batey. Surrounded by mighty old trees and lush subtropical vegetation, the very attractive school building with a small. Library and internet connection provide an ideal atmosphere for concentrated learning in a tropical environment. Although only a stone’s throw from the center of Sosua and a 5-minute walk from its beautiful main beach, the center is very quiet. When the weather is usually nice, lessons are moved to the four airy, shady terraces.

Cabarete : A small seaside resort with a fishing port just 15 minutes’ drive from Sosua. While Sosua primarily attracts scuba divers, Cabarete enjoys a world-wide reputation among surfers/kite boarders.

A Spanish standard course :

• Weekly hours: 20 to 45 minutes.
• Classes: 9.00-12.30
• Group size: 2-7
• Skill levels: 4 beginners to advanced
• Contents: Grammar and exercises, training in pronunciation and listening comprehension, building and deepening vocabulary, idioms, reading and conversation.

B Spanish intensive course :

• Weekly hours: 30 to 45 minutes.
• Lessons: 9.00 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. & 2.00 p.m. – 3.30 p.m
• Group size: 2-7
• Skill levels: 4 beginners to advanced
• Contents: The 20 hours of the standard course are supplemented by 10 hours per week in mini-groups or individual training. Extra conversation, exercises or by appointment.
• Educational leave in Hamburg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.

C Spanish private lessons :

• Weekly hours: 20 or 30* 45 minutes each.
• Lessons: 9.00 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. & 2.00 p.m. – 3.30 p.m
• Group size: 2-7
• Skill levels: 4 beginners to advanced
• Content: The course content can be tailored individually.

The combination of both course locations is recommended and enriching in order to combine two very different impressions and situations, e.g. 2 weeks. Sosua and 1 week. Santo Domingo.
