An Italian language trip to Bologna is combined with immersion in one of the oldest university cities in Europe. Academic life has determined the history of the city for over 900 years. Italian courses in Bologna are a good fit for the many students who create a stimulating atmosphere from the contrast between the historic and wonderfully preserved center with its dreamy medieval palazzi and the young intellectual life. The 35 km long colonnades allow pedestrians to view the center in peace and quiet, without being disturbed by traffic or sudden rain showers. Bologna’s cityscape is characterized by historical shops, markets, bookstores, art bookbinderies, bars and of course numerous restaurants, because Emilian cuisine is known all over the world. Learning Italian in Bologna means getting involved in the local peculiarities without being distracted by too much tourism, as is often the case in other cities in Italy.
Language school & Italian lessons
Location: The partner school (Koiné) is located in a historic building in the university district in the heart of the city.
A Italian standard course :
- Weekly hours: 20 x 55 minutes in the morning + cultural program in the afternoon
- Classes: 9.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m
- Group size: 5-9
- Content: This course covers general language content such as grammar, vocabulary, reading/listening comprehension and conversation. An ideal way to enjoy the language course and make the most of the language practice and interaction with the other course participants.
B Italian intensive course / educational leave :
- Weekly lessons: 20 group lessons + 10 individual lessons of 55 minutes each.
- Lessons: 9.00 a.m. – 1 p.m. & 2.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m
- Group size: 8-12
- Content: In this course, in addition to the standard course, you will receive 10 additional individual lessons per week with a focus on conversation or, upon request, subject-specific content. This is the most effective language course of all because you can benefit from group interaction and one-on-one lessons dedicated to you at the same time. In this intensive language course you usually have 2 teachers. The combined intensive language course is recognized as educational leave in Germany.
C Italian private lessons :
- Weekly hours: 20 á 55 min.
- Lessons: 9.00 a.m. – 1 p.m. & 2.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m
- Group size: 1
- Content: If you want to significantly improve your Italian course in the shortest possible time, individual lessons are the ideal course form. The focus is on you and your course wishes, be they of a general language or subject-specific nature.
D Bread, wine and language:
This is a one-week program that can be combined with additional language weeks in Lucca or Florence.
20 hours/week Italian language and culture in the morning. In the afternoon you will discover the secrets of Tuscan wines and cuisine through a variety of activities and excursions.
Methodology
Basic cycle : The “contact threshold” is reached in three stages, that is, according to the Council of Europe’s Foreign Language Project, the level of communicative competence that enables one to move and communicate in the Italian language.
Beginner level : It provides the basic requirements for finding your way in everyday situations, satisfying basic personal needs and understanding relatively simple information. Intermediate level: It provides the prerequisites for dealing with more complex situations, representing one’s own point of view and telling things in a satisfactory way. Advanced level: It leads to the achievement of the “contact threshold”, ie the linguistic and communicative requirements to move effortlessly in the reality of the country and in contact with its inhabitants. Throughout the cycle, emphasis is placed on spoken language.
Further training cycle : Two stages: rationalization and systematic development of linguistic skills, appropriate expression and possible variations in spoken and written language. 1. Upper level: Morphology and Syntax 1. Partial analysis and deepening of various linguistic expression variants of spoken language. 2. Upper level: Morphology and syntax 2. Partial analysis and deepening of various linguistic expression variants of written language. Evidence of dialectical differences.
Leisure time
At the start of the course, each participant receives an information folder with the excursion and leisure program, a current calendar of events and a list of useful addresses in the city (including a city map).
Accommodation
- + 2 apartments/shared apartments: These are single and double rooms with generally simple furnishings (bed, table, chair, closet or box) in private households (families or individuals) or in student apartments. Shared use of the bathroom and shower, bed linen and towels are provided; you are responsible for cleaning yourself during your stay. Distance to school: approx. 15-30 minutes on foot or bus.
- + 5 host families: in a single or double room with breakfast or half board. The hosts are not always families, but sometimes single people, who can be even more talkative. Language students find this type of accommodation stimulating because they allow them to take part in local life.
